We are nearly a month into working on the 1940 US Federal Census. Most people I have talked to are loving these pages with clear writing and easier to recognize names. The biggest complaint I have heard is that the highlighter won't stay on the right line.
If that is your complaint, please click on the link above to take you to a post written some time ago on this blog about setting the highlighter for an entire batch. If you will follow these directions, you will not have to mess with the highlight option again until you download your next batch (or unless you log off before completing the current one). Having the highlighter in the right place makes ALL the difference!
Good luck and keep on Indexing!

Look At This!
The Pleasant View South Stake indexed/arbitrated 20,000 records this past week! What a great first week of 1940 Census work.
We had more participation this past week than we've seen in the past eight months. 81 Stake members have been involved in recent work. That is very exciting!

Today's the Day!!
The 1940 United States Census will be released TODAY!! For all those who have been waiting to Index census pages again, this is fabulous news.
There has been a bunch of new Indexers register to work recently, we assume it has something to do with this news. It is a great time to be involved in Indexing!
We will continue to update the Stake's total and the breakdown by Ward statistics. Look for the numbers over here in the right-hand margin of this page--->
Thanks for your hard work. Let's see what we can do now!

Looking Ahead and a Plea
April 2, 2012 is the launch date for the 1940 U.S. Census forms on Family Search, but right now you can actually practice by choosing a 'Simulation' 1940 Census batch at the top of the download list. These have been prepared to allow those who wish to preview the information that will be indexed from these forms.
You can download a simulated 1940 Census page and get an overview of what they look like, see which cells will be extracted into the database, and be able to read "Field Helps" as you move your cursor for a complete explanation of the information to be recorded.
It will be wonderful to have Census pages to Index again, but please work on some of the other projects while we anticipate the release date of 4/2/12. There is an especially high need for Arbitrators to work on the WWII cards.
Thanks!

March Report
There has been quite a bit of work performed over the past week and a half! I am so impressed with the PV South Stake. Take a look at those numbers over there at the right margin and down ----------

We passed our first one-hundred thousand of the year on the first of March. There are only 30 days left until the 1940 U.S. Census Project is released for us to work on. The Family Search people have put out a request for additional arbitrators. If you would like to become an arbitrator, please drop me an email at jojaworld@yahoo.com and I can make the adjustment to the site to allow you arbitration privileges and point out the on-line training you can do to feel comfortable with the additional responsibilities.
Thanks for continuing to Index. It is an amazing work we are doing!

40 Days and 40 Nights
According to Family Search reports, we are 40 days away from seeing the launch of the 1940 Census records! For many Pleasant View South Stake Indexers, this is a dream come true or at least a sincere wish come to pass.
As of February 20, 2012, the Stake currently stands at just under 80,000 records Indexed for the year. In another 40 days, we expect to see that number explode!
