Observing Memorial Day

I've been thinking about Memorial Day over the past week and the ways we honor our dead on this holiday.  Visiting and decorating graves, flying flags in remembrance, participating in patriotic programs, holding family get-togethers, and skipping out of town for a quick vacation were a few I could name.  This year I decided for myself I'm going to add a new tradition...Family Search Indexing.  I Index at least a couple of batches every day so it won't be a huge variation of routine, but this day, this Memorial Day, I'm going to do so with more thought and reverence for those who have gone ahead.  I want to perform this service with an extra measure of reflection on those lives which were spent and how cherished they are to Heavenly Father; so treasured that he has made it possible for us to learn of them, link them to their ancestors and posterity; and perform ordinances for them in our Temples.

I am so grateful for your commitment to and testimonies of this work.  I feel so blessed to be able to visit with many Stake Members about their feelings concerning Indexing.  Your examples have amplified my dedication; so today I will Index with a increased sensitivity to honoring those spirits and remembering those lives.

Happy Memorial Day!
