Sister Linda Christiansen, of the Pleasant View 2nd Ward, began Indexing when we were still part of the Pleasant View Stake. Linda was working on her own genealogy during that time. She had discovered useful information on various websites which helped her prepare names for temple ordinances and began to have a desire to do something that would help others have the same type of success at no cost to them. That is when Indexing became a part of her everyday routine.
As mentioned, Linda is an Arbitrator. She takes this role extremely seriously and has been inspired to research information beyond that available on the actual image she is Arbitrating in order to make decisions regarding the indexed information.
Linda says she has never Indexed information for people she recognized as relatives, but she has certainly been the beneficiary of Indexing others have done. One evening she felt prompted to stop Indexing and return to doing genealogy work for her own family. This was shortly after the records from the Iowa Marriage Indexing Project had been added to the Record Search Site. In one evening she found marriage information for approximately 20 couples of her extended line. She felt like she had struck gold!! Many of the records supplied not only the marriage date but also the names of men and women who had married into her family, including the maiden name of females as well as the names of their parents which allowed her to prepare many additional names for temple work.
Sister Christiansen believes Indexing is a tremendous way to spend leisure time in a productive manner and to contribute to general genealogical work a few minutes at a time.
Thank you, Sister Linda Christiansen, for your involvement in this amazing work! We think you are awesome in your own Indexing/Arbitrating efforts, personal family history work, and also for the encouragement and instruction you give to other Indexers.
