Spotlight - Shirley Barker

Shirley Barker is the top Indexer of the Harrisville Fourth Ward.  She finds such joy in doing genealogical work and has been tremendously involved for many years.  She and her husband served as German Extractors in their Stake for 25 years.  Six years ago when Indexing was introduced, it was natural for her jump right into that role without any hesitation.

Sister Barker finds herself Indexing at various times of day because it is so simple to get on the computer to work, but you will always find her Indexing from 6:00-8:00 a.m. every morning.

In addition to her role as Indexer, Shirley and her husband, Dennis, just completed a five and half year service mission at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

Shirley loves that Indexing helps other people locate their ancestors as they work on their family history.  She just can’t seem to get enough of Indexing and appreciates the inspiration that accompanies her while she works.  She listens for the whispering of the spirit to help interpret difficult writing or decipher low quality images.  She has often thought she was going to finish for the day and shut down the computer, but she will receive a prompting to do just one more batch.

If you wonder if Indexing would be a good thing to get involved in, just chat with Sister Barker for a few minutes.  You will feel of her love and commitment to and her powerful testimony of Indexing.

Thank you Shirley Barker for your years of excellent service in this capacity!
