Indexing has changed this summer. There is no longer the proliferation of available census sheets to Index and Arbitrate and those we are receiving have a higher number of immigrant and native names with spellings which make deciphering more difficult.
With fewer census pages, we are turning to other types of records, often ones we are not familiar with. We've received a special request from our top Arbitrators in the Stake asking our Indexers to please look over the pages of marriage, death and birth certificates carefully. Perhaps start by setting the magnification to 50 percent so the entire page is visible. Check if there is more than one record per sheet. We are seeing many records marked blank, when actually the form is there, just lower or off-center on the screen. Please check the entire screen carefully by moving the image up and down and side to side completely before you mark anything "no extractable data" or "blank image".
Our numbers are down because the Indexing we are doing is more difficult and time consuming, but these records contain critical information for those doing family history. It's okay to slow down and be as precise and correct as possible in all records we submit. Thank you for careful and accurate submissions!!
